WELCOME TO DRIFFIELD - CAPITAL OF THE WOLDS

Welcome to Driffield Town Council website, which we hope provides you with all you need to know about Driffield, Capital of the Wolds and the work of the Town Council. Set in the heart of rural East Yorkshire this thriving market town offers the visitor an ideal base to explore the surrounding spectacular Wolds.

Driffield is a growing town. Once its entire existence was based on serving the agricultural hinterland but in recent times, with the decline in agriculture and the foot and mouth outbreak, the town has had to gradually adapt and move forward, embracing new economic facets to ensure its survival and prosperity.

In close proximity to the major industrial and commercial centres of both Hull and York, Driffield has become a popular choice for those relocating to the area and the town has seen considerable residential growth over the last decade. With careful planning these developments have not had a negative effect on the aesthetics of our town, but rather proved to those wishing to bring businesses here of its undoubted potential.

Our town centre has attracted a significant number of national retailers in recent years and, with the thriving industrial estates at Kelleythorpe and Hutton Cranswick, the area has proved a popular choice for those setting up and relocating businesses.

MarketThe bustling town centre attracts shoppers from throughout the East Riding. Being on the main transport routes, both by road and rail, also brings their advantages. The Thursday market, relocated to the town centre in 2001, has also proved very successful. In addition the town also boasts the premier East Riding Farmer's Market, held at the Showground on the first Saturday of every month.

All the schools, including the junior school www.driffieldjuniorschool.net and the two infantschools, www.driffieldnorthfieldinfants.co.uk and www.dis.eril.net have all received very good Ofsted reports and substantial improvements in their facilities.

The town’s sports facilities have also been recently updated, with a new sports and leisure centre opened in January 2009 www.driffieldsportscentre.co.uk.
